Hills and sky with Psalm text

Help Us Lord

Help, LORD, for no one is faithful anymore; those who are loyal have vanished from the human race. Everyone lies to their neighbor; they flatter with their lips but harbor deception in their hearts. May the LORD silence all flattering lips and every boastful tongue—those who say, “By our tongues we will prevail; our own lips will defend us—who is lord over us?” “Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise.” says the LORD. “I will protect them from those who malign them.” And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times. You, LORD, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked, who freely strut about when what is vile is honored by the human race. Psalms 12 NIV

Wow, when I read this psalm this morning, I couldn’t help but think that King David may have been looking at a society much like what we are living in today. The prophet Isaiah warns “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil,” (Isaiah 5:20) We see this everywhere we look today. We cannot trust the nightly news anymore and social media is flooded with lies. Misinformation seems to be the new age battle plan. From the beginning of this war, we have witnessed over and over the lies, the one-sided news stories, and misinformation spread about the people of Israel. Sure, for a few weeks the world was shocked by the atrocities committed by Hamas. Then the blame quickly went to the state of Israel. I have been shocked at the college campuses shouting praises to “the resistance”. It is not resistance to burn babies, rape women and kidnap hundreds of men women and children both old and young from the safety of their homes. Some claim that it is what had to be done, that nothing is worse than the occupation. There is no occupation. But I won’t get into that here. Have you ever seen Israel intentionally kill civilians especially women and children? NO, they haven’t! They have gone to such extremes to prevent the death of civilians, extremes that have never been seen throughout history. Leaflets dropped to evacuate areas, telephone calls, text messages and even drones sent with messages in their own language warning of impending danger. Have you seen Hamas do such a thing? How about Hezbollah or the Houthis? NO, you haven’t! They like to attack unsuspecting innocent people on holy days. False information and AI are being used as warfare, and it has been successful. I could go on and on explaining the fake videos and spend this blog debunking all the lies but what good would that do?

So, how do we fight these lies and the evil of this age? JUST LIKE DAVID!! David cried out to God. “Help, LORD” and the LORD answered, “I will protect them from those who malign them,” We must be bold and stand up to the evil of this world, but we absolutely MUST take it straight to the LORD. He is who wins in the end. The devi is a liar, his favorite weapon is his deceitful tongue. He has always been a liar; so, we can know his people by their fruit. I think it is important in this fight and in every battle, we face in life never to forget who we are and who he is. We must continue to have faith, to do good and to cry out to the LORD on our good days and on our bad days. Just like the psalmist, King David. For the battle belongs to the LORD!!

“Hear, Israel: today you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not be fainthearted or afraid; do not panic or be terrified by them. For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.” Deuteronomy 20:3-4
